The 2025 COAR Annual Conference will take place from May 12-14, 2025, in Tokyo, Japan, and will bring together experts, policymakers, and repository communities from around the world. Jointly organized by COAR (Confederation of Open Access Repositories), JPCOAR (Japan Consortium for Open Access Repositories), and the National Institute of Informatics (NII), the conference aims to foster dialogue and shape a collective vision for the future of repositories in the era of open science.
The event will focus on three key themes: developing strategies to enhance the visibility and discoverability of research outputs in repositories, examining how repositories and repository networks can support compliance with global open-access policies, and identifying and advancing emerging innovations that can benefit repository infrastructure and practices.
Open to COAR members, partners, and the JPCOAR community, the conference offers a platform for sharing experiences, identifying priority activities, and collaborating on the development of repository networks. Registration will open in mid-January 2025, and the venue will be the National Institute of Informatics in Tokyo, with additional details about accommodations to be announced soon. A programme outline will be released in early January 2025. This global gathering will provide an essential opportunity to discuss the evolving role of repositories in supporting open-access research and advancing open science worldwide.
