The University of Wollongong (UOW) Library has unveiled a modern and future-focused platform for its open access repository, Research Online. This new platform reflects UOW's dedication to advancing academic discovery and fostering global collaboration by making research outputs freely available to the world.
Research Online will centralize, preserve, and share the university's extensive research portfolio, ensuring easy, barrier-free access to scholars, researchers, and institutions. It offers a wide range of scholarly content, including journal articles, theses, reports, datasets, and creative works, enhancing the global visibility of UOW’s academics and students.
By eliminating paywalls and subscription barriers, the repository supports cross-disciplinary collaboration and aids researchers in complying with grant funders’ open access mandates. This initiative aligns with UOW's mission to contribute to solving some of the world’s most pressing challenges through open knowledge dissemination.
Researchers at UOW can seamlessly deposit their work into Research Online via Elements, the university's existing system for managing research outputs and UOW Scholars profiles. This integration streamlines the process by avoiding duplicate data entry. To assist academics and students, self-help resources are available through the Elements guide, which provides detailed instructions on contributing open access works.
Delivered on time and under budget, the launch of Research Online represents a successful collaboration between the Library, Research Services Office, Information Management and Technology Services, and the Graduate Research School. This platform is a valuable step toward ensuring knowledge accessibility and promoting innovation within the global research community.
