Ex Libris users in Mexico Gather for XXVII Annual Meeting to explore future of library technology -

The XXVII Annual Meeting of the Ex Libris Users Group in Mexico recently brought together more than 60 library professionals from 15 libraries to explore the latest trends and innovations in library technology. The event, held annually, serves as a platform for participants to share insights, discuss emerging technologies, and exchange strategies for enhancing library services.

This year’s meeting focused on the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies in shaping the future of libraries. Among the key highlights was a presentation titled “Three Technological Applications for 21st Century University Libraries”, which explored how advanced tools can streamline library management to better meet the needs of modern library users. Another important session, “Inventio Reinvents Itself,” introduced new developments in library technology designed to further enhance library operations.

The program also included discussions on practical tools and real-world applications, such as “Metadata Transfer from ALMA to Hyrax: Colmex Theses”, which provided technical insights into the metadata transfer process. In another session, library professionals learned about RapidILL, a resource-sharing solution aimed at simplifying acquisition processes and improving budget management, particularly useful for administrators.

A special reflective session, “And After 30 Years, Alma Arrives…”, discussed the impactful experience of adopting the Alma library management system, emphasizing its transformative role in library operations. Additional sessions focused on improving user experiences through Primo and enhancing accessibility features to ensure better service delivery.

The XXVII Annual Meeting once again demonstrated the vibrant and forward-thinking community of Ex Libris users in Mexico. The event allowed professionals to engage with one another, share valuable experiences, and collaborate on innovations that will continue to shape the future of library services in the region. As libraries continue to evolve in response to changing user needs, events like this play a crucial role in fostering collaboration and driving innovation in the field of library technology.
