Optica Publishing Group welcomes new Editors-in-Chief for JOSA B and Optics Express -

The Optica Publishing Group has announced the appointment of two distinguished scientists as Editors-in-Chief for its prominent journals. Irina Novikova will lead the Journal of the Optical Society of America B (JOSA B), while Siddharth Ramachandran takes the helm at Optics Express. Both editors began their tenures on January 1, 2025, bringing extensive expertise and vision to their roles.

Dr. Irina Novikova is a Professor of Physics at the College of William & Mary in Virginia, USA, specializing in experimental quantum atomic and optical physics. Her research focuses on the coherent interaction of light and atoms, enabling advancements in areas such as electromagnetically induced transparency, non-classical light generation, and precision metrology devices like atomic clocks and magnetometers.

A Fellow of Optica and the American Physical Society (APS), Novikova has been a longstanding contributor to the scientific community and Optica. Her extensive service includes roles on Optica’s Publications Council, Membership Engagement and Development Council, and as a General Chair for the Fundamental Science program at CLEO conferences. She has editorial experience as a Deputy Editor and Associate Editor for Optica, Topical Editor for Optics Letters, and editorial board member for Scientific Reports.

Dr. Siddharth Ramachandran is a Distinguished Professor of Engineering at Boston University, where his research explores nonlinear, ultrafast, and quantum photonics. He is renowned for his pioneering work with structured and singular light in optical fibers and bulk media.

A Fellow of Optica, AAAS, APS, IEEE, and SPIE, Ramachandran’s accolades include being named a 2019 Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellow by the US Department of Defense, one of its most prestigious awards. His prior editorial contributions include serving as a Deputy Editor and Associate Editor for Optica and holding editorial positions with Optics Letters and IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics. Ramachandran also played a key role in expanding the Applications and Technology track at CLEO during his tenure as a Program Chair and General Chair.

As Editors-in-Chief, Novikova and Ramachandran aim to further strengthen their journals’ reputation for advancing research and innovation in optics and photonics. Their leadership underscores Optica Publishing Group’s commitment to excellence in scholarly communication and its role in shaping the future of optical science and engineering.
