The American Chemical Society (ACS) has announced the addition of 46 new institutions to its global network of read and publish agreements, effective January 2025. These agreements grant participating institutions full access to ACS's extensive portfolio of chemistry journals while enabling affiliated researchers to publish open-access articles seamlessly.
The expansion strengthens ACS’s commitment to supporting open science and providing access to cutting-edge research. By enabling institutions to integrate reading access and open-access publishing, the agreements empower researchers to disseminate their work more broadly and align with global efforts to promote open scholarship.
In addition to the new read and publish agreements, ACS has launched its second "read and green" arrangement with the Elektron Consortium in Belgium. This initiative provides reading access to ACS journals for five institutions while offering zero-embargo green open access for authors, allowing them to deposit their manuscripts in institutional or subject repositories immediately after publication.
The new agreements mark another milestone in ACS’s strategy to expand open-access publishing worldwide. With the inclusion of institutions from diverse regions, ACS continues to support researchers in meeting funding requirements, enhancing collaboration, and increasing the visibility of their work.
