Emerald Publishing expands open access and subscription access through new deals with SCELC and PALCI -

Emerald Publishing, a leading global academic publisher, has announced new "read and publish" agreements with the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC) and the Partnership for Academic Library Collaboration and Innovation (PALCI). These agreements, which build upon existing partnerships, will extend access to Emerald’s extensive journal collection to a broader range of academic institutions for the first time.

The SCELC and PALCI agreements are Emerald’s first read and publish partnerships with library consortia in North America, representing a significant milestone in the publisher’s ongoing efforts to enhance open access and subscription models. These deals will offer a wide range of institutions, including universities, libraries, and research centers, seamless access to Emerald journals, along with the ability to publish articles open access within them.

The agreements also come on the heels of Emerald’s acquisition by New York-based Cambridge Information Group in 2022, which has propelled the publisher’s growth and further emphasized its focus on meeting the evolving needs of the academic community.

Through these new partnerships, SCELC and PALCI members will gain access to a wide array of journals across disciplines such as business, management, engineering, and social sciences. Additionally, participating institutions will benefit from a streamlined publishing experience, making it easier for researchers to contribute their work to the global academic conversation.
