The Bolivian Network of Publishers and Scientific Journals (REBER) is taking significant strides in enhancing the visibility and quality of Bolivia’s scientific publications. Comprising 24 journals, REBER’s mission is to foster a research culture by creating platforms for debate and training to improve the standards of Bolivia’s scientific output. Journals seeking membership in the network must have an ISSN, be up to date, have an editorial committee, and submit a request for affiliation.
One of the key initiatives of REBER has been its training program for journal editors. This year, the Network launched a series of webinars aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of indexing Bolivian journals in global databases. In collaboration with organizations like DOAJ, Latindex, SciELO Bolivia, and Biblat, these webinars emphasized the critical role of indexing in enhancing the global reach of Bolivian science.
On February 15, 2024, Ivonne Lujano, DOAJ Ambassador for Latin America, led a workshop titled “Application of Bolivian Journals to DOAJ,” attended by 22 editors and publishers. During the session, participants learned about the DOAJ's indexing criteria and common challenges, particularly in establishing robust editorial committees for multidisciplinary journals. These factors are crucial for meeting DOAJ’s quality control standards.
Following the workshop, nine journals submitted applications to DOAJ, resulting in six being successfully accepted into the Directory after a thorough review. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Bolivian scientific publishing and strengthens the country’s contribution to global research visibility.
