Clarivate unveils transformative subscription-based access strategy for academia -

Clarivate Plc, a global leader in providing transformative intelligence, has launched a subscription-based content access strategy designed to provide broad, simple, and affordable access to scholarly resources. This new approach aims to support research, teaching, and learning by offering libraries reliable and curated academic materials, including eBooks and primary digital collections.

The traditional model for purchasing academic resources has become increasingly complex, particularly in the post-pandemic era. Many libraries face challenges with fragmented buying models that do not adequately address their curricula or research needs. Clarivate’s new strategy addresses this gap by offering sustainable, cost-effective solutions that libraries can rely on for their users’ diverse academic demands.

With the rise of AI-powered tools in academic research, including chatbots that assist students and researchers in discovery, the need for reliable access to broad and vetted academic content has never been more crucial. Clarivate’s approach ensures that these tools are powered by trusted scholarly resources.

Key to this strategy are two major solutions now available:

ProQuest eBooks – This platform offers the world’s largest subscription of scholarly eBooks, featuring over 700,000 titles across 10 core disciplines. The solution includes a new Ebook Central Reader app, allowing students to read and bookmark content on the go, alongside the Ebook Central Research Assistant, an AI tool designed to enhance student learning.

ProQuest Digital Collections – This subscription gives access to over 160 million primary source items, including more than 2,500 full-text scholarly journals, 24,000 video titles, and 15 million audio tracks. The service spans nine discipline solutions, including Anthropology, Global Studies, History, and Performing Arts.

To align with changing library demands, Clarivate will phase out one-time perpetual purchases of digital collections and books throughout 2025, ensuring a smoother transition for customers.
