ACS Publications has announced a new read and publish agreement with four prominent universities in Hong Kong, marking a significant step in advancing academic access and open access publishing. The agreement, signed with City University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and The University of Hong Kong, extends the reach of ACS's journals to more academic communities in the region.
This collaboration adds to ACS’s existing partnerships with the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, and Lingnan University, bringing the total number of JULAC (Joint University Librarians Advisory Committee) institutions involved in the program to seven. The move is seen as a major milestone in enhancing access to cutting-edge research while supporting the growth of scholarly publishing in Hong Kong.
As part of the agreement, faculty and students across the participating institutions will gain complete reading access to all ACS journals, ensuring they can stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in chemistry and related fields. Furthermore, affiliated corresponding authors will be able to publish their articles as open access at no cost to them, increasing the visibility and impact of their research. This open access publishing benefit will be available through December 2028.
The expanded partnership aligns with the growing global shift towards open access publishing, aiming to make scientific knowledge freely available to researchers, policymakers, and the public. By joining forces with seven top Hong Kong universities, ACS is further enhancing the accessibility of scientific research across Asia and beyond.
