Frontiers and ZB MED mark second year of partnership to strengthen open access publishing in Germany -

Frontiers has announced the continuation of its successful partnership with the German National Library of Medicine (ZB MED) into its second year. This renewed agreement, which builds on the collaboration established in 2024, further strengthens the commitment to advancing open science in Germany by providing researchers with seamless, cost-effective access to gold open access publishing.

The partnership consolidates Frontiers’ first flat-fee publishing model in Europe, making it faster, easier, and more affordable for researchers to publish and share their work globally. Under this agreement, researchers from both public and private institutions, as well as state, regional, and specialist libraries across Germany, can publish an unlimited number of peer-reviewed articles in all Frontiers journals without incurring article processing charges (APCs).

Institutions that are already part of Frontiers’ institutional partnership program can continue to take advantage of this agreement, while new institutions have the opportunity to join the consortium until early 2025. Petra Labriga, Head of Strategic License Management at ZB MED, emphasized the importance of the partnership, saying, "This renewed collaboration offers several key benefits for researchers, including cost-free publishing and simplified submission processes."

Key advantages of the agreement include:

• The ability to publish an unlimited number of articles without APCs or administrative hurdles.

• A streamlined submission process supported by advanced AI and technology tools.

• Immediate availability of published research, freely accessible to a global audience.

• Increased visibility of research, enhancing career opportunities and expanding research portfolios.

The partnership remains open to new participants, enabling more institutions across Germany to benefit from this innovative and cost-effective approach to open science publishing. This continued collaboration underscores both Frontiers' and ZB MED’s commitment to providing equitable access to high-quality, open research on a global scale.
