Cochrane, an international non-profit dedicated to evidence-based healthcare research, has announced that Catherine Spencer will step down as its Chief Executive Officer. Since her appointment in 2022, Spencer has led Cochrane through a strategic transformation, reinforcing its position as a trusted source of medical evidence.
The Cochrane Governing Board has appointed Dr. Karla Soares-Weiser as acting CEO while the search for a permanent replacement is underway. Toby Lasserson, Cochrane’s Deputy Editor-in-Chief, will serve as acting Editor-in-Chief.
Cochrane leadership acknowledged Spencer’s role in stabilizing operations, developing the 2024-2027 Organizational Strategy, and advancing open-access initiatives. The organization remains focused on strengthening its evidence synthesis model and AI-driven research tools.
