SSP releases individual results for Insights Benchmarking Compensation & Benefits Study -

The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) has announced the release of individual results from its inaugural Insights Benchmarking Compensation & Benefits Study, a global initiative designed to analyze wages, compensation structures, benefits, workplace policies, and skill trends within the scholarly communications sector. This annual study aims to provide a data-driven overview of workforce trends and competitive positioning, offering insights into the industry's evolving demands.

The study examines key areas such as educational background, professional experience, job satisfaction, compensation levels, healthcare and retirement plans, paid leave policies, and the skills required for roles in scholarly publishing. With over 300 responses collected to date, the study presents an evolving dataset that will become increasingly comprehensive as additional participants contribute their information.

The results are hosted on SSP’s Insights Platform, where individuals who meet the minimum participation threshold can access a downloadable report comparing their responses to aggregated industry data. The platform also provides filtering options based on factors such as position level, job function, and professional focus, enabling participants to gain tailored insights into compensation trends.

For those seeking a more detailed analysis, SSP offers a premium access subscription that includes dynamic comparison reports. These reports incorporate advanced filtering options such as organization size and type, geographic region (including country and state), and years of experience, allowing for more granular benchmarking against industry peers.

The study was developed through a collaborative effort involving SSP’s Benchmarking Advisory Group, SSP staff, and Dynamic Benchmarking, with contributions from industry professionals representing organizations such as the Association for Psychological Science, Maverick Publishing Specialists, the American Psychological Association, Crossref, and the American Mathematical Society.

Based on initial findings and participant feedback, future editions of the survey will include expanded job title categories, adjustments to enhance global applicability, and refined benefits options to better reflect compensation structures outside the United States. Data collection for the 2025 study is scheduled to commence in the final quarter of the year.

A separate organizational study report will be released at the end of March, allowing additional organizations to contribute their data before the March 31 deadline. The findings will assist organizations in benchmarking their compensation and policy frameworks, ensuring alignment with industry standards and identifying potential gaps. The scholarly publishing community is encouraged to share the survey with relevant stakeholders to increase participation in the organizational study.
