The American Psychological Association (APA) is set to introduce the APA Style Manual, an electronic resource providing institutions with full-text access to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. This new platform will serve as an official library resource for APA Style, offering comprehensive support for students and researchers in writing with clarity, precision, and inclusion. The APA Style Manual will be available this summer.
Designed with an accessible, mobile-responsive, and annotatable format, the APA Style Manual aims to enhance institutional access to APA Style standards. It will feature interactive lessons that present guidelines in an engaging and approachable manner, supporting students, researchers, and instructors across multiple disciplines. APA Style is currently used in more than 70% of college degree programs in the United States, spanning fields such as psychology, social work, nursing, business, education, and communications.
APA Chief Executive Officer Arthur C. Evans Jr. emphasized the enduring influence of APA Style, noting that since its establishment in 1929, it has expanded beyond psychology into STEM fields and the arts. He highlighted the launch of the APA Style Manual as part of APA’s broader commitment to lifelong learning, accessibility, and inclusion.
Jasper Simons, APA’s Chief Publishing Officer, underscored the importance of the new resource, acknowledging longstanding requests from library partners for institutional access to the Publication Manual. He noted that the addition of interactive APA Style lessons will further support students and educators using APA Style for research and coursework.
First published in 1952, the Publication Manual has been continuously updated and translated into 13 languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Romanian, Polish, Greek, Chinese (complex and simplified), Japanese, Korean, Arabic, and Turkish. Across its various editions and formats, more than 17 million copies have been sold worldwide.
With the introduction of the APA Style Manual, APA aims to expand institutional access to APA Style resources, reinforcing its role as a key standard for academic and professional writing.
