cOAlition S provides feedback on Canadian Tri-Agency open access policy consultation -

cOAlition S, a consortium of research funders and institutions committed to advancing full and immediate Open Access through Plan S, has submitted its response to the Canadian Tri-Agency’s consultation on its draft Open Access policy for publications. The revised policy, introduced by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), aims to enhance open access to publicly funded research.

In its feedback, cOAlition S expressed broad support for the policy’s emphasis on immediate open access while recommending several refinements to strengthen its implementation and effectiveness. The response addressed licensing requirements, rights retention policies, and the role of preprints, emphasizing the need for clear frameworks that maximize accessibility and reuse. Additionally, cOAlition S highlighted opportunities to align the policy with data management principles and explore the development of open access guidelines for long-form scholarly works.
