The American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) has announced that CHEST Critical Care and CHEST Pulmonary, two open access journals launched in 2023, have been accepted for indexation in Elsevier’s Scopus database.
Both journals, which were previously indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) in 2024, focus on publishing peer-reviewed research in pulmonary and critical care medicine. The new Scopus indexation is expected to expand the visibility and impact of the journals by increasing their accessibility to a global audience of researchers and clinicians.
Inclusion in Scopus represents a significant milestone, as the database is one of the leading global platforms for abstracts and citations. Each year, thousands of journals apply for Scopus indexation, with only 33% meeting the initial technical criteria. Of those, approximately half receive final approval following independent evaluation by the Content Selection Advisory Board. The journals join a growing collection of more than 5,500 fully open access titles indexed by Scopus.
CHEST highlighted that this dual indexation—achieved within two years of the journals' launch—reflects the quality of research contributions and the rigor of the editorial and peer-review process. The organization expects continued growth for both publications, emphasizing their commitment to disseminating high-impact and innovative scholarship in respiratory and critical care fields.
CHEST Critical Care and CHEST Pulmonary accept original research and case series submissions, with a focus on topics such as clinical decision-making, implementation science, health services delivery, cost-effectiveness, study design, policy evaluation, and quality improvement.
