The Microbiology Society has announced the launch of Microbiology Outlooks, a new journal designed to advance interdisciplinary collaboration and discussion across the full spectrum of microbiology. The journal joins the Society’s portfolio of six established titles, aiming to publish authoritative reviews and forward-looking perspectives that explore emerging directions in microbiological research and its broader societal applications.
The journal’s launch aligns with the Society’s longstanding mission to foster knowledge exchange among microbiologists and related disciplines. Founded over 80 years ago by figures including Alexander Fleming and Marjory Stephenson, the Society continues to support scientific advancement by facilitating collaboration between researchers, policymakers, and practitioners.
Microbiology Outlooks will focus on critical topics such as emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, food security, and sustainable energy transitions. Articles will offer comprehensive insights into these areas and assess the future impact of microbiology in addressing global challenges. While most content will be commissioned, the journal invites concept proposals for reviews, perspectives, and commentaries.
As a not-for-profit publisher, the Microbiology Society will reinvest proceeds from the journal into the broader microbiology community, including funding for events, grants, and professional development initiatives.
