Theresa Anderson appointed Executive Director of ACRL -

The American Library Association (ALA) has announced the appointment of Theresa Anderson as the new executive director of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), effective May 19, 2025. Anderson, a Certified Association Executive (CAE), brings over 30 years of experience in the professional association sector, most recently serving as vice president of innovation and outreach at ASIS International, a global organization for security management professionals.

Throughout her tenure at ASIS, Anderson played a key role in driving product strategies that aligned with market needs and business objectives, leading to significant revenue growth. She also focused on developing strategic partnerships, content strategies, and executing initiatives that supported the organization's long-term goals.

Anderson holds a Master of Arts in International Studies from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, and a Bachelor of Arts in English and Communications from Eureka College in Illinois.

As executive director of ACRL, Anderson will oversee one of ALA’s largest divisions, which includes 8,500 individual and institutional members. ACRL plays a pivotal role in supporting the academic and research library community, advancing programs, products, and services that meet the needs of libraries and their stakeholders.

ACRL President Leo Lo expressed enthusiasm about Anderson's appointment, highlighting her extensive experience in leading strategic initiatives and fostering innovation. The transition comes with gratitude for the leadership provided by Allison Payne, who has served as the interim executive director for nearly two years, and has been instrumental in guiding the organization during this period. Payne will now transition to the role of associate director of operations and strategic initiatives, where she will continue to manage special programs and projects, including those related to ACRL’s equity, diversity, and inclusion goals.

In her new role, Payne will also manage the organization’s governance functions and provide leadership in advancing ACRL's operational efficiency.
