The Endocrine Society has named Manuel Tena-Sempere of the University of Cordoba in Spain as the next Editor-in-Chief of Endocrinology, the Society’s flagship journal for basic science. His term will begin on January 1, 2026, and continue through December 31, 2029.
Tena-Sempere is a professor of physiology at the University of Cordoba, leads a research group at the Maimonides Institute for Biomedical Research of Cordoba (IMIBIC), and serves as a principal investigator with the Spanish Network of Research on Obesity and Nutrition (CIBEROBN). His research focuses on the neuroendocrine regulation of reproduction and metabolism, including the molecular mechanisms governing puberty and fertility, and how these processes are influenced by metabolic signals and obesity.
In addition to his scientific contributions, Tena-Sempere has held editorial roles in more than 15 journals and was Associate Editor of Endocrinology from 2013 to 2017. He has authored over 380 peer-reviewed articles, including 67 published in Endocrinology since 1993. He has also contributed to educational and mentorship initiatives within both European and American endocrine communities.
The journal publishes foundational research across all levels of biological organization related to endocrine function in health and disease, and is cited more than 34,000 times annually, with some publications maintaining citation relevance for nearly three decades.
Tena-Sempere will lead the journal’s editorial direction beginning in 2026, overseeing the continued development of original research in hormone science.
