Taylor & Francis adds GetFTR-powered indicators to flag retracted or updated references -

Taylor & Francis Online has introduced new indicators in the reference sections of journal articles to signal when cited research has been retracted or corrected. Powered by GetFTR’s retraction and errata service, the feature places Taylor & Francis among the first journal platforms to integrate this capability.

While it is standard for retractions and corrections to be noted on the original article, cited works may appear in other publications without a clear indication of their revised status. This update addresses that gap by providing direct visibility within the citing article’s references.

Citations to retracted research now display a “Retraction” button, while corrected citations show an “Updates” button. Users can hover for a summary or click through to the GetFTR Document Status page, which includes a detailed update timeline.

The new functionality relies on data sourced from Crossref and Retraction Watch to ensure accuracy and timeliness. GetFTR’s integration is designed to highlight the status of cited research at the moment of discovery, supporting informed decision-making among researchers.

This development aligns with broader efforts to uphold the integrity of the scholarly record. Taylor & Francis reports conducting hundreds of investigations annually into articles flagged for concern, many of which result in retractions or corrections that may carry implications for subsequent research and citations.

The update is intended to improve transparency for readers, enabling them to assess the reliability of cited sources without needing to visit the original publication. Taylor & Francis is one of GetFTR’s founding partners in this initiative.
