A distinguished expert in diabetes research is set to guide the future of research dissemination through his appointment as Editor-in-Chief of Diabetes UK’s flagship journal, Diabetic Medicine. Professor Noel Morgan, Emeritus Professor of Endocrine Pharmacology at the University of Exeter Medical School, will officially begin his tenure on 1 July 2025.
Diabetic Medicine is dedicated to sharing research that advances the understanding and management of diabetes. Professor Morgan succeeds Professor Nick Oliver of Imperial College London, who led the journal’s editorial team for the past four years.
Professor Morgan was granted Emeritus status at the University of Exeter in 2024, following an illustrious 45-year research career. He previously served as Director of the Institute of Biomedical & Clinical Science in Exeter for 13 years. His work has produced significant breakthroughs in Type 1 diabetes, notably in developing new clinical trials using anti-viral agents to treat viral infections associated with diabetes onset in children.
Over his career, Professor Morgan has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers on diabetes research. His dedication to the field has been recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Network of Pancreatic Organ Donors with Diabetes (nPOD) for his contributions to diabetes research and treatment.
Dr. Elizabeth Robertson, Director of Research and Clinical at Diabetes UK, welcomed Professor Morgan’s appointment and extended thanks to Professor Oliver for his outstanding leadership over the past four years. She acknowledged Professor Oliver’s significant contributions, which helped the journal grow in reach and impact, and expressed deep gratitude for his service.
