The American Public Health Association (APHA) has appointed Dr. Denys T. Lau as the new Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Public Health (AJPH), effective July 1, 2025. Dr. Lau will become the journal’s 15th editor since its inception in 1911.
A faculty associate at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Lau brings extensive experience in federal, academic, and international health sectors. His prior roles include associate editor of AJPH (2016–2024) and editorial board member (2014–2016). He also led population-based survey programs at the CDC and served as the U.S. lead delegate to the OECD on healthcare quality indicators.
Dr. Lau succeeds Professor Alfredo Morabia, who led AJPH through a decade of transformation, including during the COVID-19 pandemic. Under Dr. Morabia’s leadership, the journal strengthened its impact factor and extended its public reach through supplements and podcast programming.
Dr. Lau’s appointment follows a global search led by Jack Farrell and Associates. His goals include strengthening AJPH’s editorial rigor and enhancing engagement with public health stakeholders ranging from researchers and educators to practitioners and policymakers.
AJPH, published by APHA, has been a platform for public health research and policy analysis for over a century.
