Dr. Robert Russell has been appointed Associate Editor of the Journal of Surgical Research (JSR), following years of involvement as an ad hoc reviewer and contributor.
Dr. Russell is a professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and director of the trauma program at Children’s of Alabama. His research has focused on pediatric surgical care and trauma outcomes, with over 120 peer-reviewed publications.
JSR is the official journal of the Association for Academic Surgery and publishes high-impact surgical research 14 times annually. As of June 2025, the journal holds an impact factor of 1.7 and a five-year impact factor of 2.0. It is indexed in major bibliographic databases including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase.
Russell’s appointment reflects the journal’s ongoing efforts to strengthen editorial leadership and advance its role in academic surgery.
