Biochemistry and Cell Biology appoints Archana Dhasarathy as Deputy Editor -

Biochemistry and Cell Biology (BCB), published by Canadian Science Publishing, has appointed Archana Dhasarathy as its new Deputy Editor. In this role, she will support the Editor-in-Chief Dr. Chris Nelson in advancing the journal’s editorial leadership.

Dhasarathy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Program Coordinator for the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) in Epigenomics at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Her research program encompasses chromatin biology, molecular biology, epigenetics, cancer, and next-generation sequencing, with particular focus on chromatin and transcription.

Her laboratory investigates the epigenetic and molecular mechanisms that underlie disease processes, including Epithelial to Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) in cancer metastasis and post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome (PTLDS). Her work examines how transcription factors such as Snail and Slug reprogram the epigenetic landscape during EMT, and how sustained epigenetic priming may contribute to PTLDS. The research also identifies potential therapeutic targets aimed at reversing disease states. In addition, she collaborates on advanced 3D cell culture models designed to replicate tissue and organ systems for cancer and arthritis research.

Alongside her research contributions, Dhasarathy has been recognized for her role as a mentor and educator, receiving the Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentor Award from the University of North Dakota. Her dedication to training future scientists is aligned with BCB’s mission as a society-affiliated, not-for-profit journal that promotes research communication, scientific discourse, community building, and mentorship.

As Deputy Editor, Dhasarathy will contribute her expertise in epigenetics, cancer biology, and translational research to strengthen BCB’s presence in these areas. Her appointment is intended to support the journal’s strategic growth and provide new opportunities for the wider research community.
