Taylor & Francis, a global publisher of scholarly journals, has introduced new features on its online platform designed to increase the visibility of multimedia research content.
The updates provide greater prominence to audio and video materials such as abstracts, podcasts, and video articles that increasingly accompany journal publications.
Recent internal research by the publisher indicated that the inclusion of multimedia, referred to as “extenders,” can more than double the readership of associated articles. To support this trend, the platform now offers two additional features at the journal level.
A dedicated “Video & Audio” page consolidates all multimedia content in one location for each title, while journal homepages now include a “Latest Multimedia Content” section displaying the two most recent articles with audio or video components.
All multimedia featured on these pages is freely accessible to all users of Taylor & Francis Online. The publisher noted that video and audio formats allow research findings to be conveyed in accessible ways that may not be possible within the constraints of a written article, making them valuable for reaching broader audiences including policymakers, practitioners, and the wider public.
