The University of Coimbra, one of the world’s oldest universities and a leading research institution in Portugal, has adopted Alma and Primo to modernize and unify its library services. The move reflects the university’s commitment to providing its academic community with streamlined access to resources and improved discovery tools through a cloud-based infrastructure.
Founded in 1290 and permanently located in Coimbra since 1537, the university operates with eight autonomous faculties, each with independent governance. Transitioning these faculties to a single library system represents a significant milestone in coordinating operations and strengthening academic collaboration.
Ex Libris will work closely with the institution to implement Alma and Primo, ensuring the integration addresses the needs of students, faculty, and researchers. By joining the global community of Alma and Primo users, the university signals its investment in innovation and its focus on sustaining academic excellence.
