The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) has opened the call for proposals for its 48th Annual Meeting, scheduled to take place from May 27–29, 2026, in Chula Vista, California. Proposal submissions are invited for Educational Sessions, Industry Breakouts, Posters, and 5-minute Industry Previews.
The upcoming meeting will focus on the theme of integrity and adaptation in scholarly communication amid ongoing challenges such as reduced research funding, shrinking library budgets, the impact of artificial intelligence on content creation, growing publication volumes, and increased strain on peer review. The 2026 event aims to explore how the scholarly community can innovate and collaborate while staying true to its foundational values.
SSP invites academics, funders, librarians, publishers, service providers, technologists, and researchers with a shared interest in advancing scholarly communication to submit proposals on a broad range of topics spanning STEM, the humanities, and related disciplines. Proposal submissions are being managed through Ex Ordo, SSP’s submission system partner, which continues to support and sponsor the Annual Meeting program.
Four submission categories are available: Educational Sessions, Industry Breakouts, Posters, and 5-minute Industry Previews. The deadlines are as follows:
• Educational Sessions – November 3, 2025
• Industry Breakout Sessions – January 30, 2026
• Educational Posters – February 13, 2026
• 5-minute Industry Previews – February 13, 2026
SSP has acknowledged the efforts of the Annual Meeting Program Committee Co-Chairs, Jessie Slater, Greg Fagan, and Marianne Calihanna, in shaping the program and coordinating the submission process.
Industry partners are also invited to participate in the 2026 Annual Meeting by showcasing their organizations, presenting sessions, and engaging with attendees. Partnership inquiries can be directed to partnerships@sspnet.org.
Founded in 1978, SSP’s membership includes publishers, librarians, editors, service providers, and technologists from across the commercial and nonprofit spectrum. Through its annual meetings, seminars, and regional events, SSP provides a platform to discuss emerging trends and innovations shaping the future of scholarly communication.
