DOAJ reaffirms commitment to Principles of Open Scholarly Infrastructure -

The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) has reaffirmed its commitment to the Principles of Open Scholarly Infrastructure (POSI) following the release of version 2.0 of the framework earlier this month. The recommitment was approved by the DOAJ Foundation Board at its October 2025 meeting.

Originally adopted in 2022, the POSI principles have guided DOAJ’s operations over the past three years, helping strengthen accountability, transparency, and sustainability. The organization has since advanced its POSI assessment through initiatives such as the FOREST framework and submission to Invest in Open’s Infrafinder.

As a POSI adopter, DOAJ has engaged with a global community of organizations committed to open infrastructure governance. Through this collaboration, it has contributed to the latest iteration of the principles, which aims to improve clarity and accessibility for stakeholders worldwide.

Over the last two years, DOAJ has undertaken fundamental changes to its organizational structure and governance. While progress has been gradual due to procedural, regulatory, and administrative challenges, the organization considers this an appropriate moment to revisit the principles, reassess its progress, and refine its future priorities.

DOAJ noted that recent changes to its structure and governance, while gradual, have reinforced its alignment with POSI’s core principles. The organization plans to reassess its progress and future priorities as it continues to strengthen stakeholder governance and transparency.

The reaffirmation reflects DOAJ’s ongoing commitment to the values of openness, trust, and global inclusivity that support both its mission and the updated POSI framework.
