The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) has announced that Dr. Suhny Abbara, will become editor of its flagship journal, Radiology, beginning January 2026. The appointment follows an extensive international search to identify a leader with a distinguished record of scholarship and editorial excellence.
As editor, Dr. Abbara will guide the journal’s strategic vision, uphold rigorous scientific standards, and oversee peer-review processes across RSNA’s portfolio of six journals. His leadership will focus on advancing radiological research, fostering innovation, and ensuring the timely publication of high-quality clinical and experimental studies.
Dr. Abbara currently serves as chair of the Cardiothoracic Imaging Division at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He previously held senior academic positions at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, where he directed educational and research programs in cardiac imaging. His work spans cardiac CT and MRI, lung-cancer screening, imaging biomarkers, and advanced imaging technologies such as photon-counting CT.
With more than 300 peer-reviewed publications and multiple professional honors, Dr. Abbara has contributed extensively to radiology education, research, and editorial leadership. RSNA plans to appoint an interim editor for Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging and will begin the search for a successor in early 2026.
Established in 1923, Radiology is the leading journal in medical imaging, publishing influential clinical research, reviews, and commentaries. RSNA is a global association of radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, and scientists dedicated to advancing patient care through education, research, and technological innovation.
