Ohio University Press has expanded its open access (OA) publishing program, increasing its collection from just over two dozen titles to more than 100 supported by University Libraries and several national and international OA initiatives. The expanded collection includes works by Ohio University faculty and global scholars, all available through the Ohio Open Library and BibliOpen platforms.
The initiative, which has already recorded over 25,000 downloads, aims to enhance discoverability, promote affordable textbook options, and strengthen public engagement with scholarly work. The press’s OA collection spans the humanities and social sciences, reinforcing its mission to make rigorous research widely accessible.
Support for the expansion came from Knowledge Unlatched, JSTOR Path to Open, TOME (Toward an Open Monograph Ecosystem), and institutional partners. By eliminating access barriers, the press contributes to Ohio University’s broader commitment to equitable access and open scholarship.
Open access publishing offers numerous benefits, including greater visibility, higher citation rates, and increased classroom usage. Through this initiative, Ohio University Press strengthens its role in democratizing knowledge and expanding the reach of academic research to readers worldwide.
