The Public Library of Science (PLOS) has launched two new open access journals: PLOS Aging and Health and PLOS Ecosystems, with an aim to address pressing global challenges through cross-disciplinary research and open science principles. Both journals follow PLOS’s Flat Fee model, designed to remove financial barriers by enabling institutions to provide unlimited publishing opportunities for researchers across participating journals.
PLOS Aging and Health will publish research across the biological, developmental, clinical, neurological, and functional dimensions of aging, promoting collaboration among scientists, clinicians, and policymakers. The journal aims to advance understanding of aging processes, cognitive and mental health, geriatric care, lifestyle interventions, advances in technology, and healthcare systems, while also exploring the social determinants and policy frameworks required to improve quality of life across diverse populations.
PLOS Ecosystems focuses on research addressing the conservation, management, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems. It encourages interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research connecting scientists, policymakers, and practitioners to generate insights into biodiversity, resource management, and nature’s contributions to people. The journal seeks to strengthen the link between science, policy, and society in addressing environmental and climate challenges.
By expanding its portfolio with these titles, PLOS reinforces its commitment to rigorous, reproducible research and open science, fostering transparency and collaboration across global research communities.
