Submissions open for 2026 John Cotton Dana Awards honoring excellence in library public relations -

The American Library Association (ALA) Core Division has opened submissions for the 2026 John Cotton Dana Award (JCD), a leading honor in library public relations. For more than 80 years, the award has celebrated excellence in library marketing and communications. The awards are supported by the H.W. Wilson Foundation and include cash prizes totaling $10,000.

Libraries of all types and sizes, along with Friends groups, consulting agencies, and service providers not represented on the award committee, are eligible to apply. Submissions must feature a strategic communications campaign completed within the past year, including initiatives such as rebranding efforts, archival promotion, awareness campaigns, community partnerships, or special events.

Winning entries typically demonstrate innovation, marketing creativity, and effective use of new technologies, while clearly outlining campaign goals and measurable outcomes. Up to eight winners representing libraries with varied budgets will be selected.

Applications must be submitted electronically and received by March 13, 2026. Award recipients will be recognized during the American Library Association Annual Conference in June 2026, with official announcements made jointly by ALA and EBSCO Information Services.
