Wiley has appointed Armughan Rafat as chief AI and data services officer. Armughan Rafat will lead Wiley’s AI and data services initiatives, with a focus on developing and commercializing AI-ready content and data products for AI developers and corporate R&D teams. The role includes responsibility for overseeing AI and data services initiatives across the organization.
Armughan Rafat has held leadership roles focused on data, analytics, and AI services, including serving as chief analytics officer at Norstella and chief data officer at Clarivate. Previous roles also include positions at the Advertising Specialty Institute and Thomson Reuters, as well as co-founding and selling an ad tech startup. Armughan Rafat holds patents related to AI and analytics technologies.
The appointment aligns with Wiley’s focus on transforming scientific content into data and AI services and supporting demand for scientific content used in R&D across corporate, academic, and government markets.
Over the past year, Wiley has reported activity in AI and data services, including generating nearly $100 million in AI licensing revenue since January 2024, partnering with AI innovators, launching Wiley’s AI Gateway, executing subscription licensing agreements with R&D-intensive corporations, and expanding its spectral database collection used in government and corporate laboratories worldwide.
