Elsevier has launched HESI’s Personalized Learning Plan (PLP) in North America as a learning solution for nursing students and faculty preparing for high-stakes assessments and entry into clinical practice.
The PLP incorporates Elsevier content and applies artificial intelligence to deliver expanded learning materials that adapt to the individual needs of each student, providing tailored support for exam preparation.
Remediation is identified as a key component of nursing education that supports students in strengthening skills needed to pass HESI exams and the U.S. National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) while ensuring clinical readiness.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, the NCLEX-RN first-time pass rate for U.S.-educated candidates declined to 81.2%, bringing the annual 2025 pass rate to 86.7%, which represents a decrease of nearly 5% year over year.
The decline highlights the stated need for proactive, programmatic, and personalized student support, as lower pass rates can delay licensure, reduce workforce readiness, and place strain on patient care capacity.
Although remediation plays a central role in addressing these challenges, existing solutions are often described as difficult to use and not engaging, creating barriers to student progression that HESI’s PLP is designed to address.
Students using HESI’s Personalized Learning Plan have access to the following features:
• AI-powered recommendations generated from individual exam performance at the item level.
• Microlearning options that deliver content in smaller segments intended to fit into busy schedules.
• Expanded content delivered through multiple formats, including Elsevier’s Osmosis tutorial videos, adaptive quizzing, case studies, and eBooks with multilingual audio.
• Progress tracking functionality that includes milestone indicators and adaptive guidance to support engagement.
HESI’s Personalized Learning Plan also provides faculty support in the following areas:
• Instructor-driven customization that allows learning plans to be tailored, with defined performance benchmarks and completion requirements.
• Real-time analytics that present performance data for cohorts or individual students, with filtering by assignment, content type, and activity.
The PLP is intended to deliver individualized student support by helping learners identify and address knowledge gaps using Elsevier’s evidence-based content, with the goal of improving exam performance and clinical readiness.
