Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine relaunches under Springer Nature imprint -

The Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (JCSM) has begun publishing under the Springer Nature imprint, marking a new chapter for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s clinical journal and representing the latest stage in its 20-year development. The partnership places JCSM within Springer Nature’s global portfolio of medical journals and is intended to expand the journal’s reach, visibility, and impact among clinicians and researchers in sleep medicine.

The relaunch follows several years of strategic assessment focused on ensuring the journal continues to attract high-quality, clinically relevant research. The transition is positioned as supporting expanded visibility while maintaining the journal’s role as a trusted resource for advancing sleep medicine and enhancing patient care.

JCSM was conceived in 2004 after the AASM Board of Directors identified a need for a journal dedicated to clinical sleep medicine. The first issue was published on Jan. 15, 2005, with the journal initially released as a quarterly print publication mailed to members. As submissions increased, the journal expanded to six issues per year by 2007 and was indexed in MEDLINE, enabling discovery through PubMed.

The journal transitioned to an online-only format in 2010, received its first impact factor in 2012, and moved to a monthly publication schedule in 2013. Continued growth and modernization followed, including the launch of a redesigned website and updated journal branding, alongside the journal’s first formal strategic planning effort, which concluded with adoption of a strategic plan in 2024.

A key outcome of that planning process was the decision to pursue a publishing partnership to support long-term goals. Following a competitive review, Springer Nature was selected as the journal’s publisher, with the transition completed in late 2025. As part of the relaunch, JCSM refined its editorial focus to emphasize original research and review articles, alongside changes to article types and editorial board expectations, positioning the journal for its next phase of clinical sleep medicine publishing.
