Frontiers and the Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research (Sikt) have announced the renewal of their national open access agreement for 2026. First established in 2020, the agreement has been renewed to allow 38 Norwegian institutions and research centers to continue operating under a simplified publishing model that expands access to high-quality research. Additional institutions may join the agreement at any time without an annual participation fee.
Among the participating institutions are leading Norwegian universities, hospitals, and research institutes. Through the agreement, they gain access to fully open access publishing in prominent journals across their respective fields, along with a national discount on article processing charges (APCs). The arrangement also provides centralized and flexible invoicing, transparent payment solutions, and the support of a dedicated account manager for library staff.
To qualify under the partnership, researchers must ensure the corresponding author is affiliated with a participating Sikt institution and uses an institutional email address when submitting a manuscript. Researchers are also encouraged to consult their institutional library to confirm eligibility and receive guidance on the submission process.
