EBSCO launches Indigenous Studies Source database for global research access -

EBSCO Information Services has launched Indigenous Studies Source, a new full-text research database designed to support researchers and scholars on Indigenous heritage, knowledge systems, and sociopolitical experiences worldwide.

The resource provides curated scholarly and historical content covering the fifty largest Indigenous populations across North America, South America, Asia, Africa, Europe, and Oceania. The database aims to connect researchers with materials addressing Indigenous histories, cultures, governance structures, and contemporary issues.

Indigenous Studies Source includes 138 full-text journals and magazines, along with books, tribal newspapers, and reports focused on Indigenous communities around the world. Coverage spans areas such as cultural preservation, ethnohistory, and Indigenous knowledge systems while also addressing topics including land tenure, sovereignty, tribal governance, legal status, and language revitalization.

Additional areas of research supported by the database include reconciliation processes, repatriation of cultural property, postcolonial studies, and the experiences of Indigenous women. The collection is intended to provide interdisciplinary perspectives that reflect both historical scholarship and contemporary research priorities.

Development of the database incorporated input from Indigenous colleges and academic programs, ensuring that the resource reflects community perspectives alongside academic research needs. The initiative aims to support deeper study of Indigenous heritage as well as ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples to global scholarship and knowledge systems.

The platform includes an advanced visual interface designed to enable topic-based exploration of content. A subject-specific thesaurus containing more than 6,200 terms supports research discovery by allowing users to navigate topics across different regions and disciplinary areas.

EBSCO indicated that Indigenous scholarship spans multiple disciplines and regions and that bringing these resources together in a single research platform enables scholars to explore connections among cultures, histories, and academic fields.
