JMIR Publications and University of Helsinki sign flat-fee open access agreement -

JMIR Publications and the University of Helsinki have entered a flat-fee unlimited open access publishing agreement effective from January 1 to December 31, 2026. The agreement replaces individual article processing charges (APCs) with an institutional publishing fee (IPF) covering all affiliated researchers, including those at Helsinki University Central Hospital.

Under the agreement, corresponding authors affiliated with the University of Helsinki are eligible for unlimited APC waivers and can publish open access in journals including the Journal of Medical Internet Research, JMIR Public Health and Surveillance, and JMIR Mental Health. The model is designed to reduce administrative processes and remove financial barriers associated with open access publishing.

The agreement was negotiated through JMIR’s institutional partnership program, which supports institutions in streamlining publishing workflows and managing costs through centralized arrangements. Eligible authors are required to identify their institutional affiliation and use their university email address during submission to access the waiver.
