Sage publishes Independence with Impact report highlighting investments in research and education -

Sage has published its latest Independence with Impact report, outlining progress made in 2025 in support of education and research. The report highlights how Sage’s independence supports long-term investment in areas including critical thinking, research impact, and partnerships across the academic community.

The report is structured around three areas. Under mission-driven progress, Sage published new and updated resources to support critical thinking, including Critical Thinking for Strategic Intelligence and The Critical Thinking Toolkit. It also released a white paper with Tom Chatfield providing recommendations for the use of AI in ways that support human development and critical thinking. In addition, Sage introduced a feature within Sage Policy Profiles to connect researchers with policymakers, supporting the application of research beyond scholarly citations.

Under mission in action, Sage expanded DEI partnerships focused on underrepresented scholars through collaborations with organizations including the PhD Project, Joint Council of Librarians of Color, Leading Routes, With Insight, and the Academic Pipeline Project. It also continued support for academic freedom through initiatives such as Banned Books Week and the publication of Index on Censorship. Following the acquisition of Cambridge Business Publishers, Sage published new accounting titles, including updated editions of Intermediate Accounting, 4e, Financial Accounting for Executives & MBAs, 6e, and Accounting for Governmental & Nonprofit Organizations, 3e.

Under a focus on people, Sage reported employee demographic data in the US and UK, indicating that 30% of employees are people of color and that 53% of vice president roles are held by women. The company also collaborated with Sense about Science on The People’s Case for Curators, highlighting the role of librarians, editors, and research integrity specialists. In addition, Sage expanded access to archival content through its AM Quartex platform by adding materials from Perkins School for the Blind.
