Frontiers’ Editorial Ethics Leader Marie Soulière elected trustee of COPE -

Frontiers has announced that Marie Soulière, Head of Editorial Ethics and Quality Assurance, has been elected as a Trustee of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Trustees are selected through an election process within COPE, reflecting the collective trust placed in expertise, leadership, and ongoing contributions to publication ethics and quality. The election reflects contributions to advancing ethical standards in scholarly publishing and to maintaining integrity and transparency in research communication systems.

The term will run for three years from 2026 to 2029 and includes responsibilities aligned with COPE’s mission to guide and elevate best practices in ethical publishing at a global scale. Marie Soulière has served on COPE since 2020 as an elected Council Member. An early contribution included participation in the development of a discussion document on artificial intelligence in decision making, addressing accountability, transparency, bias, and human oversight in publishing workflows.

Marie Soulière chairs COPE’s papermill working group and led the development of 2025 guidance produced jointly with the International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers (STM) on guest-edited collections. Marie Soulière has held roles at Frontiers since 2013 across publishing, peer review, and research integrity. Current responsibilities include leading strategic publishing projects across departments and product platforms. Marie Soulière contributed to the development of the Artificial Intelligence Review Assistant (AIRA). Frontiers operates community journals across more than 1,700 academic fields and provides an open access platform supported by technology, artificial intelligence, and peer review.
