APA Publishing has named John Lauriello as the Editor of Focus, the American Psychiatric Association’s quarterly clinical review journal.
Lauriello serves as the Daniel Lieberman Professor and chair of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Thomas Jefferson University. He earned his undergraduate degree from Yale College, completed medical school at Temple University, and trained in residency at New York Hospital-Cornell-Whitney Clinic.
His research focuses on schizophrenia and first-episode psychosis. He has authored more than 100 papers and has edited textbooks on schizophrenia and administrative psychiatry. He is a former president of the Missouri Psychiatric Physicians Association and an APA Distinguished Life Fellow.
Focus is part of APA’s “Lifelong Learning in Psychiatry” series and provides clinical updates, supports study skills, and includes self-assessments aimed at improving patient care. The quarterly journal allows practicing psychiatrists to earn up to 44 hours of CME credit each year and has been approved by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as part of a comprehensive lifelong learning and self-assessment program.
Lauriello succeeds longtime Editor Mark Rapaport, who will become APA president in May.
The journal will continue to support psychiatric education and professional development, with emphasis on clinical knowledge and advances in the field.
