GW Ethics in Publishing Conference 2026 to address Integrity by Design -

The 16th GW Ethics in Publishing Conference will take place on October 22, 2026, with a possible additional half‑day on Friday, October 23. The hybrid event will be hosted at the George Washington University Arlington Education Center in Arlington, Virginia, and online. The conference theme for 2026 is Integrity by Design.

The deadline for presentation proposals has been extended to May 31, 2026. Organizers have indicated that proposals may be grouped with related topics, and presentations will range from 15 to 40 minutes.

The annual conference brings together students, professionals, and researchers to examine ethical leadership and public trust in publishing and scholarly communication. The 2026 program emphasizes proactive strategies and systemic solutions to strengthen integrity in publishing practices.

Presentations will address topics such as:

  • Transparent peer review practices
  • Equity and inclusive design in publishing
  • Research integrity and intentional use of Artificial Intelligence
  • Metadata applications for tracking the scholarly record
  • Accessibility, diversity, and community‑centered models in publishing

Organizers have outlined areas of interest including equitable peer review, multilingual publishing, accessibility, sustainability, inclusive language editing, community‑centered peer review, author integrity, editorial board representation, academic freedom, and partnerships between presses in developed and developing economies.

Alumni and current students in the GW Publishing program are invited to present their Ethics in Publishing Capstone projects or other research. Students and alumni from other publishing programs are also encouraged to submit proposals. Presentations will include invited speakers, panels, and short sessions.

The 2025 conference featured 54 professionals and students across 26 sessions, with nearly 700 attendees. Organizers noted that while in‑person participation is encouraged, virtual presentations remain an option. Travel expenses cannot be covered.

The GW Ethics in Publishing Conference is organized by the Graduate Program in Publishing, College of Professional Studies, George Washington University. Co‑sponsors include the Association of American Publishers, Association of University Presses, Book Industry Study Group, Council of Science Editors, International Society of Managing and Technical Editors, Society for Scholarly Publishing, and Scholastica.

Attendance, both in person and online, is free of charge. Registration will open soon. In addition to conference presentations, participants are invited to submit papers to the GW Journal of Ethics in Publishing.
