Sage has been recognized with the Alison Morrison Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award at the Independent Publishing Awards, hosted by the Independent Publishers Guild. The award highlights efforts to make publishing more diverse and inclusive, both in published output and within the workforce.
Judges commended Sage’s longstanding commitment to social justice during its six decades of independence. They noted the company’s initiatives to improve workforce and author representation and its use of data to inform and measure diversity strategies. According to the judges, diversity, equity, and inclusion are integral to Sage’s operations, and the organization consistently seeks ways to expand its efforts.
Reflecting on the recognition, Kiren Shoman, Executive Vice President for Editorial and Global Executive Lead of DEI at Sage, stated that the award would be especially meaningful to the company’s founder, Sara Miller McCune, who established Sage 60 years ago with a focus on social justice. Shoman emphasized that the achievement reflects the collective efforts of colleagues who turn commitment into action and underscored the importance of the publishing industry working together to support equity, particularly during challenging times.
The Independent Publishing Awards celebrate the achievements of the independent publishing sector across the United Kingdom and Ireland, with Sage’s recognition underscoring the role of diversity and inclusion in shaping the future of the industry.
