The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and the Society of China University Journals (CUJS) have announced a new partnership aimed at improving the visibility and discoverability of Chinese open access journals both within China and internationally.
As part of the collaboration, DOAJ and CUJS will continue to co‑organize the DOAJ China Day event and participate in other initiatives to raise awareness of open access publishing. The organizations also plan to explore project‑based collaborations to promote open access and encourage best practices in scholarly publishing.
Joanna Ball, Managing Director of DOAJ, stated that the partnership formalizes ongoing collaboration with CUJS, building on the success of DOAJ China Day events held in 2023 and 2025. She explained that these events brought together journal editors, publishers, and infrastructure providers to discuss open access practices. Ball noted that China’s open access publishing community is rapidly developing and highlighted that DOAJ currently indexes more than 550 journals from China. She indicated that the partnership is expected to strengthen awareness of open access and best practices among Chinese journals.
CUJS President Zhang Tieming observed that global open access has entered a new phase of development, with discussions focused on future growth and improvement. He remarked that closer collaboration between CUJS and DOAJ would provide support for enhancing the quality and expanding the scale of open access publishing in China and internationally.
