Karger Publishers appoints Iola Forster as new Managing Director -

Karger Publishers has announced a leadership transition as part of its ongoing integration into Oxford University Press (OUP).

After nearly nine years with the company, Daniel Ebneter has stepped down as Chief Executive Officer and will leave in the coming weeks. The Karger Management Board expressed appreciation for his leadership during a period of significant transformation following the acquisition by OUP in December 2025.

As part of this transition, Iola Forster has been appointed Managing Director of Karger Publishers. Forster has more than 17 years of experience at Karger, having held customer‑facing and leadership roles across the organization. Her background positions her to guide the company through its next phase.

Forster stated that she was honored to take on the role at this stage in the organization’s development. She emphasized Karger’s heritage and purpose, noting that as part of OUP, the company is well positioned to continue delivering high‑quality publishing and services that meet evolving customer needs.

David Clark, Managing Director of the Academic Division at OUP, remarked that Karger’s reputation for quality and its strong community connections provide a foundation for continued growth. He indicated that Forster’s experience and knowledge of the organization would support further progress within OUP.

The transition comes amid ongoing changes in the publishing landscape and organizational restructuring. Karger remains committed to its mission of connecting people and science, while benefiting from OUP’s scale, expertise, and global reach.
