JADA Foundational Science (JADA FS), the open access journal of the American Dental Association (ADA), has been indexed in PubMed Central, the free full‑text archive of biomedical and life sciences literature maintained by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Indexing in PubMed Central makes JADA FS articles searchable on one of the most widely used biomedical research platforms. This development is expected to increase visibility, enhance citation potential, and strengthen credibility for authors and researchers. It also supports compliance with funding requirements, as many agencies, including NIH, mandate public accessibility through PubMed Central.
Jack L. Ferracane, Ph.D., Editor‑in‑Chief of JADA FS, noted that indexing would make it easier for readers to locate and download articles for research and general interest. He credited Elsevier, along with authors, reviewers, and editors, for contributing to this milestone.
While some JADA FS articles are already available in PubMed, others are still being added, a process expected to take several weeks. Updates will be shared through the JADA journals’ LinkedIn account.
Launched in 2022, JADA FS publishes research that translates foundational discoveries into clinical contexts, focusing on biological, chemical, physical, computational, and engineering aspects of dental and craniofacial health. The journal emphasizes scientific rigor, innovation, and relevance to clinical and public health outcomes.
Dr. Ferracane attributed the journal’s approval for PubMed indexing to efforts that increased manuscript submissions, including a pause in article processing charges between May 2025 and April 2026. ADA members continue to receive a 50% discount on charges, which are set at $2,500 for full‑length articles and $1,500 for short communications.
Further information about the journal and its research is available at jadafs.ada.org, and submissions can be made through editorialmanager.com/jadafs.
