On May 28, 2026, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) announced the results of its officer elections. Beginning July 1, Elisa Bertino, Samuel Conte Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at Purdue University, will serve as ACM President for a two‑year term. Bertino has contributed extensively to information and systems security and privacy over her four‑decade career and is recognized for her efforts to broaden participation in computing through leadership and mentoring.
Joining Bertino in ACM’s leadership team are Vice President Rashmi Mohan, Senior Director of Engineering at Cisco (Splunk) Inc., and Tom Crick, Professor of Digital Society and Policy at the University of Bristol, who will serve as Secretary/Treasurer. Two new Members‑at‑Large were also elected to four‑year terms: Lydia Tapia, Professor at the University of New Mexico, and Holly Yanco, Distinguished Professor at the University of Massachusetts.
Bertino stated that her primary goal as President will be to strengthen ACM’s role as a trusted global voice, ensuring that technological advances align with societal values and the public good. She emphasized plans to support early‑career researchers and educators through mentorship, promote equitable access to ACM publications and infrastructure, and expand ACM’s reach across regions and cultures. She noted that computing is at a defining moment, with transformative advances reshaping research, industry, and society, while also presenting significant challenges that require strong professional leadership and interdisciplinary dialogue.
Bertino currently serves as ACM Vice President and has previously held roles as ACM Secretary/Treasurer and Chair of the ACM Special Interest Group on Security, Audit and Control (SIGSAC). She co-founded the ACM Conference on Data and Application Security and Privacy (CODASPY), which has become a leading forum for research on data privacy and security. Her honors include the ACM Athena Lecturer Award, the SIGSAC Outstanding Contribution Award, the IEEE Innovation in Societal Infrastructure Award, and the IEEE Computer Society Tsutomo Kanai Award.
Incoming Vice President Rashmi Mohan brings more than 25 years of experience in technical and management roles. At Cisco, she leads engineering teams focused on enterprise security. Her career includes co‑founding EnTrio Partners, working with startups and established companies on digital transformation, and serving as Senior Engineering Manager at Yahoo Labs. Mohan has held multiple ACM leadership positions, including Secretary/Treasurer, Member‑at‑Large of the ACM Council, and roles on the ACM Practitioners Board and ACM India Council.
Tom Crick, ACM’s newly elected Secretary/Treasurer, has worked extensively on computing, data, and artificial intelligence, publishing on the societal, cultural, and economic impacts of digital technologies. In addition to his academic role at the University of Bristol, he serves as Chief Scientific Adviser at the UK Government’s Department for Culture, Media, and Sport. Crick has chaired national curriculum reviews in computing and STEM education and is a long‑standing Member‑at‑Large of the ACM Council as well as a member of the ACM Presidential Taskforce on Financial Models.
