On June 1, the Council of the European Union adopted a Recommendation establishing the first European framework for science diplomacy.
The initiative comes at a time of heightened geopolitical complexity, with the EU emphasizing the importance of strengthening international research collaboration, promoting trust in science, and fostering cooperation that is open, reliable, and secure.
Scholarly publishing is recognized as playing a central role in enabling global collaboration, safeguarding the integrity and traceability of the scientific record, and supporting the responsible use of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence in science.
STM noted that it looks forward to working with policymakers and partners to ensure that Europe’s science diplomacy ambitions are supported by knowledge systems that are robust, trusted, and sustainable.
