OverDrive and EBSCO integrate to enhance discovery of digital resources in academic libraries -

OverDrive and EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) have announced a new integration that connects OverDrive’s ebooks and audiobooks on Libby directly to the EBSCO Knowledge Base (KB) and EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). The collaboration enables ongoing synchronization of digital library holdings within institutions’ Integrated Library Systems (ILS), streamlining workflows for librarians and improving discovery for students and faculty.

Through this partnership, mutual customers can now access Libby content directly within their existing EBSCO environments. Librarians can select OverDrive collections from the EBSCO Knowledge Base and automatically populate them into their catalogs, while students and faculty can discover ebooks and audiobooks alongside other library resources and link seamlessly to Libby to borrow content.

Steven Rosato, Senior Manager for Academic & Professional at OverDrive, explained that the integration removes barriers for both librarians and learners. He noted that libraries can showcase their digital collections more effectively, while students benefit from a unified experience that brings ebooks, audiobooks, and streaming video together in one place.

The integration ensures that institutions using both OverDrive and EBSCO can connect students to a full range of digital resources, including ebooks, audiobooks, and videos. For librarians, it reduces administrative steps and provides more opportunities to highlight media collections that support student success.

Dave Mangione, Senior Vice President of Research Databases at EBSCO, stated that when metadata flows cleanly between systems, users can focus on finding content rather than navigating platforms. He emphasized that the integration demonstrates how EBSCO’s open infrastructure connects content from diverse providers while minimizing administrative effort for libraries.

This initiative reflects both organizations’ commitment to supporting libraries with technology that simplifies resource management and enhances discovery. By combining OverDrive’s digital reading and streaming platforms with EBSCO’s discovery tools, the partnership promotes a more integrated and accessible experience for academic communities.
