EIFL and European Respiratory Society renew Read & Publish agreement -

EIFL has renewed its read and publish agreement with the European Respiratory Society (ERS), extending benefits to libraries and authors in 36 partner countries until 2029.

Under the renewed terms, from January 2027 to December 2029, participating institutions will enjoy free and discounted access to ERS journals, alongside open access publishing opportunities. The agreement covers the flagship European Respiratory Journal (impact factor 23.8) and three other titles: ERJ Open Research (impact factor 4.4), European Respiratory Review (impact factor 10.8), and Breathe (impact factor 4.5).

The European Respiratory Journal remains ERS’s leading hybrid publication, featuring clinical and experimental research across adult and paediatric respiratory medicine, including cell biology, epidemiology, immunology, oncology, imaging, occupational medicine, intensive care, sleep medicine, and thoracic surgery. ERJ Open Research continues to provide fully open access coverage of basic, translational, and clinical science, while European Respiratory Review offers comprehensive updates for professionals through reviews, editorials, and summaries of recent findings. Breathe, ERS’s Diamond open access journal, delivers practice-focused educational content without publication fees.

Free Read & Publish Terms

Libraries in 32 countries will receive free access to the European Respiratory Journal. Corresponding authors from these countries will also be able to publish open access articles in European Respiratory Journal, ERJ Open Research, and European Respiratory Review without paying Article Processing Charges (APCs).

Discounted Read & Publish Terms

Libraries in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Slovenia will benefit from discounted read and publish fees. These fees cover access to the European Respiratory Journal and free open access publishing for corresponding authors in the three eligible ERS journals.

EIFL noted that the agreement continues to strengthen access to high-quality respiratory research and supports authors in making their work openly available to a global audience.
