Wiley publishes NIST Mass Spectral Library 2026 in multiple formats -

Wiley has announced the release of the NIST/EPA/NIH EI Mass Spectral Library 2026 and the NIST MS/MS Spectral Library 2026, available in multiple instrument‑ready formats.

Developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), these databases represent more than four decades of evaluation and expansion, serving as a key resource for mass spectrometry analysis.

Updates in the 2026 release:

• EI Mass Spectral Library: Expanded with over 35,000 new compounds, bringing the total to more than 431,000 electron ionization spectra. Coverage includes biologically, environmentally, and industrially relevant compounds.

• MS/MS Spectral Library: Now contains more than 3.2 million spectra across 68,600 compounds, including metabolites, drugs, pesticides, peptides, lipids, glycans, extractable and leachable compounds, surfactants, and contaminants.

• GC Retention Index Library: Enhanced with over 35,000 additional compounds to improve compound identification workflows.

• NIST MS Search Software: Updated to include chromatogram analysis for GC‑MS and LC‑MS/MS workflows.

From 2026 onward, the EI and MS/MS libraries are available as separate products, with bundle options offered through Wiley.

Wiley noted that it distributes the EI library in more instrument formats than other providers. The company also highlighted that, alongside the standalone NIST libraries, customers can extend capabilities with the Wiley Registry and KnowItAll GC‑MS and LC‑MS libraries, providing broader coverage and flexibility for evolving analytical workflows.

The EI library is available in multiple manufacturer formats, while the MS/MS library is provided in NIST format. Together, they support high‑confidence analysis across GC‑MS and LC‑MS workflows, enabling laboratories to improve identification and streamline processes.
